The Philippine Eagle “Formerly The Monkey Eating Eagle”

Abstract: The Phillippine Eagle's handsome headdress, its flashing blue eyes, large size and tan and white body make it one of the most striking creatures in the tropical rain forests. This life size painting depicts the eagle clutching its favorite prey, the Rufous Hornbill. President Ferdinand Marcos declared it the state bird of the Phillippines in 1979 after a meeting with artist Ruthven who discussed the plight of the endangered eagle.

Mr. John Ruthven resides in Georgetown, OH
