Arne Almquist opened the meeting with a welcome to the first meeting of the 11/12 fiscal year. Introductions were made around the table for new and returning members.

  • Arne showed a PowerPoint presentation of statistics from this year's Steely Library Convocation, comparative data between other Kentucky universities, most recent LibQual results and the State of the Library, 2011 – where have we been, where are we now, and where are we going (see presentation on the ULAC meeting minutes webpage).

Threasa Wesley

  • Showed a PowerPoint presentation on Government Documents Collections and Programs. NKU/Steely Library is now the regional archive and document delivery service for the U.S. Copyright Office. This is a collaborative project of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries.
  • We are also working in collaboration with the Smithsonian and will be applying to be the regional archive for the folk life center.
  • Threasa also talked about Phil Yannarella's Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) bibliographic searchable website and reference service.

Note: Threasa’s presentation will also be on the ULAC website.

Arne commented that Threasa and the R&IS area, Lois Schultz and the Technical Services area, as well as Lois Hamill and her Special Collections and Archives area are fantastic and he is very proud of the library's faculty and staff.

Questions and Comments:

Greg Martin commented that he is incredibly impressed with and feels lucky to have Steely Library as part of the university. He uses the library as a selling point to draw good faculty.

Karen Leek, the new representative for Health Professions, came into the meeting once the presentations had begun. Introductions were made around the table.

Arne stated that the first meeting of the fiscal year is generally more of a "dog and pony show" to get everyone current with what the library has been doing and where it's headed. However, before the next meeting, there will be a call for agenda items and the meeting will be based on the questions that are generated by the faculty and staff in each of the various areas on campus. You are their representative and voice. Your input helps guide the actions and direction of the library.

There being no further business or discussion, the meeting adjourned and Arne took Karen Leek on library tour.
